The Kansas City Chiefs was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans by businessman Lamar Hunt and was a charter member of the American Football League. They have won three AFL championships, in 1962, 1966, and 1969. The Chiefs became one of the strongest teams in the now thriving American Football League, with the most playoff appearances for an AFL team, and the most AFL Championships (3).

The Chiefs are one of 16 organizations that honor their players, coaches and contributors with a team Hall of Fame or Ring of Honor. They have the second-most enshrinees of any NFL team in their team Hall of Fame behind the Green Bay Packers, who have enshrined over 100 players and team contributors over the years in the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.
