The Dolphins completed the NFL’s only perfect season culminating in a Super Bowl win, winning all 14 of their regular-season games, both of their NFL playoff games, and also Super Bowl VII. The 1972 Dolphins were the third NFL team to accomplish a perfect regular season, and won Super Bowl VIII, becoming the first team to appear in three consecutive Super Bowls, and the second team to win back-to-back championships. Miami also appeared in Super Bowl XVII and Super Bowl XIX, losing both games.

The Miami Dolphins joined the American Football League (AFL) when an expansion franchise was awarded to lawyer Joseph Robbie and actor Danny Thomas in 1965 for $7.5 million.

The Dolphins currently have nine “long time” players, and one “long time” coach enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, that have spent the majority (or entirety) of their careers with the Dolphins. Three other players and one “contributor” that have spent only a “minor portion” of their careers with the Dolphins, have also been enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
